What Types Of Crowns Do You Offer?

At our office, we typically use lab-made dental crowns custom-built from tooth-like porcelain ceramic materials. We prepare your damaged tooth for treatment by removing any decayed material, then work closely with a trusted lab to create a crown that will look and feel completely natural in your mouth. We also offer other types of crowns including gold crowns, depending on the patient's individual needs.

How Do Lab-Made Crowns Protect Teeth?

Dental crowns are intended to cover up and protect your tooth, restoring it after it’s been damaged. At our Livermore dental office, we use lab-made crowns built by our partner dental lab. All of our crowns are built from a durable porcelain material, and are shaped to look and feel just like a natural tooth. With a lab-made crown from Dr. King, you can restore your smile and your bite.

What Can I Expect From The Crown Placement Process?

The process takes two appointments at our office. At your first appointment, your tooth will be prepared for the crown. Dr. King will begin by cleaning your mouth and numbing the treatment area. Next, she will use a dental drill to remove any decayed enamel, and trim your tooth to prepare for crown placement. Then, we’ll take images and scans of your teeth. These will be sent to the dental lab, and the lab will begin crafting your crown. This process takes a few weeks. You’ll be sent home with a temporary crown to protect your newly-trimmed tooth.

In 2-3 weeks, your crown will arrive at our office, and you’ll come in for your second appointment. Dr. King will check the crown to make sure it is a perfect fit before bonding it into place permanently, completing the procedure.

What Dental Issues Can Crowns Fix?

Dental crowns are usually used to restore teeth that have been damaged by extensive tooth decay, or that have been cracked or broken by dental trauma, such as a slip and fall.

Crowns are also often used to protect teeth that have been restored by root canal therapy. More rarely, crowns can also be used cosmetically to restore teeth that can’t be treated with an alternative like dental bonding or veneers.

How Do I Take Care Of A Dental Crown?

Caring for a dental crown is just like caring for a natural tooth. All you have to do is brush at least twice a day, and floss once a day. You should also see the team at Kitty Hawk Dental Care every six months for an oral exam and teeth cleaning to ensure your crown and the rest of your teeth stay strong and healthy.
