Is It Safe To Visit The Dentist During COVID-19?

The COVID-19 outbreak continues to affect our day-to-day lives, and despite vaccination programs beginning in the US, it may be a long time before things return to “normal.” So don’t neglect your routine dental care! Seeing the dentist during COVID-19 is completely safe, and it’s always a good idea to get the routine preventive care you need, even during COVID-19. At our office, Dr. Kimberly King is taking every possible precaution to keep patients safe. Read on to learn more.

  1. Patient Check-Ins & Mask Requirements
We require you to wear a mask or other face covering to your appointment at Kitty Hawk Dental Care, and to keep it in place in all common areas until you enter your operatory for your appointment.
We will also be requiring you to answer some brief questions about your recent travel habits, possible COVID-19 exposure, and symptoms you are experiencing that may indicate the presence of COVID-19 or another infectious disease.
  2. Social Distancing At Kitty Hawk Dental Care
We are doing our best to reduce the number of people in our office at any given time, and we’ve reconfigured our waiting area and removed hard-to-clean items like magazines to provide you with a safe experience.
We are also asking that you come alone to your appointment unless you need help getting into our office or if you’re supervising your kids at Kitty Hawk Dental Care.
In addition to this, we have changed how we schedule patients to provide more time between each patient. This allows us to reduce the number of people in our office at any given time, and also gives us more time to clean up and sanitize operatories between each patient.
  3. Enhanced Cleaning Of Patient Operatories & Common Areas
We are doing our best to keep our office clean and safe for patients. We have always followed all necessary legal and health & safety regulations related to the cleaning of operating rooms between each patient, but we are now redoubling our efforts to clean and sanitize every surface.
We are also cleaning common areas and frequently-touched surfaces such as doorknobs, countertops, tables, chairs, and other such surfaces to remove infectious microbes and reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19, the flu, the common cold, and other such viruses.
  4. PPE For All Team Members
Our dental team members are wearing more PPE when required for specific operations. We always wear face masks and eye protection, as well as gloves, but we may also wear face shields, gowns, caps, shoe coverings, and additional PPE depending on the specifics of each dental procedure.
In addition, our front office team members are now wearing face masks and are protected by Plexiglas shields to protect against potential virus spread.
